Stand By For Action! This absolutely amazing Thunderbird 2 Cake was made by Peboryon. The creation of the cake was filmed and parts of it where shown on the TV Show Extreme Cake Makers (Season 3, Episode 23).
There are three things that make this an extreme cake!
First, its size. This cake is massive. It is five feet, six inches long and two feet, six inches high.
Second, it is motorized. On the TV show Thunderbirds, Thunderbird 2 was a transport vehicle that carried a giant pod. That pod contained whatever smaller rescue vehicles were needed. If you look at the top picture carefully, you’ll notice the yellow line on the cake. The center section directly behind the yellow line (i.e. the pod) looks like it is separate from the rest of the cake. The reason it looks that way is because it is separate. In fact, the pod isn’t even edible. You’ll find out why in just a second.
Take another look at the picture of the cake. You can see one of Thunderbird 2’s legs. That leg is in a brace at the bottom where it meets the cake board. What you can’t see in the photo is that the cake actually has two cake boards. The first board is the one that is decorated and visible at the bottom. The second is hidden underneath Thunderbird 2. Contrary to how it appears, the leg isn’t attached to the bottom cake board. It is only attached to the hidden cake board underneath Thunderbird 2. The brace is just there to help hold the leg in place. Why? Because that leg is attached to a remote control garage door opener.
At a push of a button, Thunderbird 2 takes to the air and leaves the pod on the ground.
The third reason this is an extreme cake is the pod and it’s special cargo. As I said above, when Thunderbird 2 takes off, the pod stays on the cake board. The door to the pod opens and falls down. That makes a ramp for the rescue vehicle to be driven out of the pod. In this case, the amazing husband and wife team that made this cake took a remote control tank and made it looks like a rescue vehicle used to drill through things. Then, they attached a Happy Birthday banner to the driller.
So when Thunderbird 2 lifts off and leaves the pod behind, the door to the pod opens, the driller then drives down the ramp pulling the Happy Birthday banner behind it.
To call this cake extreme is an understatement. You might even call it F.A.B.!!!
Here is a picture of Thunderbird 2 in the air. The pod’s door has opened, the driller has come down the ramp and it is pulling the Happy Birthday banner!
The cake (i.e. Thunderbird 2) served 100. It was lemon and elderflower flavored.
Here is the cake from the front. It looks absolutely amazing.
