These adorable Jeff The Land Shark Macarons were made by Maccha By Iris. Jeff is the cutest land shark, who is just as comfortable on land as he is in water. His favorite activities are eating and sleeping. He is loveable, not just for being cute, but because he has a heart of gold.
Jeff was a minor character in some Marvel Comics written by Kelly Thompson. Then two things happened. First, Marvel decided that they wanted to add kid friendly content to Marvel Unlimited. They gave Jeff an infinity comic (i.e. you just slide the digital comic up to read it, just like WebToons). Jeff’s infinity comic is a smash hit. It has been reformatted as a print comic and Jeff has gotten his own brand new print comics. Second, Jeff was added to Marvel Rivals where he became absolutely beloved.
These cute Jeff cookies are egg shaped, so that the curve at the bottom for his body is larger than the curve at the top for his head. Iris added Jeff’s top fin on his head. Plus, she gave Jeff two little front fins for arms. So that Jeff’s hands had something to do, she has him holding a little heart. In black she added his gills, eyes, nose, mouth and teeth. The attention to detail is terrific, Jeff’s eyes are in the colored part of his skin. His gills are half on the color portion and half on the white portion of his skin. His nose and mouth are on the white portion.
The single most import part of Jeff is his face. Since Jeff doesn’t speak, so much of his expressiveness comes from his face. Iris does a wonderful job with Jeff’s face. With just a few lines, you get the impression that Jeff is smiling.
Iris does something brilliant with her design. The macaron is mostly white. Only about 20% of what you see is blue. Iris could change her design, but then the cookies wouldn’t look like Jeff which defeats the whole purpose. If you were to ask me to explain the appeal of Jeff, I’d say that he was an adorable land shark. He is lazy and loves to eat and sleep. But the thing that really make Jeff adorable is that he is a shark with heart of gold. Iris comes up with a great way to express this and to get rid of the problem with her macarons being almost completely white. First, she has Jeff holding a heart in his two little fins and smiling. It’s adorable and looks like classic Jeff. Second, Iris creates other macarons that are pink hearts. One of the coolest tricks in cookie and cake designs is that you can use a secondary color in one area and then reuse that color elsewhere to make it stand out. The Jeff macarons are adorable. But, when you place them near the pink heart macarons, the pink heart is emphasized even more. This makes the pink heart stand out and you don’t really notice that the macaron is mostly solid white. This trick takes these cute macrons and makes them even cuter!
While this is the first time I’ve featured Jeff The Land Shark on Between the Pages Blog, I’ve featured other adorable macarons:
