The Finest Super Mario Cakes In The Galaxy

Mario Golf Cake
Mario Golf Cake

Since The Super Mario Galaxy Movie launches today, I thought it was the perfect time to spotlight some of my favorite Mario themed cakes.

The spectacular Mario Golf Cake show above was made by Mike’s Amazing Cakes.  The golf bag looks so realistic with the leather finish and metal buckles.  I really the way Mario is holding the golf club as he pops out of the golf bag.

This astonishing Mario Kart Wedding Cake was made by Christopher Garren’s Let Them Eat Cake which is located in Costa Mesa, California.  These pictures came from the Groom’s Flickr photostream.

Here are more pictures of this amazing cake:

Mario Kart Wedding Cake

The idea of the Princess Peach’s castle on a planet was inspired from Super Mario Galaxy.

Mario Kart Wedding Cake

Mario is standing on a question block to receive a kiss from his princess. This idea came from the Super Mario Adventures comic series published in a 1992 Nintendo Power magazine. The design is also a personal one, the groom has had to step on apple boxes for portraits ever since high school.

Toad is driving his Cheep Charger through a snowy mountain filled with snowmen, penguins and Chain Chomps.

Yoshi
Yoshi is on his very own Mach Bike.

Mushrooms

The side of the mountain is covered with mushrooms, turtle shells and Piranha Plants.

Christopher Garren’s Let Them Eat Cake also made this absolutely amazing Bowser’s Castle Groom’s Cake.

Mario Wedding Cake

Believe it or not, the Bowser turret and Peach were both sculpted out of chocolate.

Luigi's Mansion Cake
Luigi’s Mansion Cake

This Luigi’s Mansion Cake features a two dimensional fondant figure of Luigi’s head. In addition, a fondant King Boo is on the top of the cake above Luigi. There are isomalt green ghosts. There is a fondant two dimensional mansion on the side of the cake. Also, there is a fondant Polterpup. This spooktacular cake ranked 3rd in the top 10 cakes of 2024.

This wonderful cake was made by Elys Reposteria. The cake board is black with green isomalt and is blue on the side.

Mario Kart Cakes

These two stunning Mario Kart cakes were made by Divalicious Specialty Cakes / Q Cake Architects. The sculpting on these car cakes is amazing. I also really like the fact that they used metallic paint because it makes the cakes look more like cars.

This 3-D Luigi’s Mansion Cake was made by Good Gosh Ganache.  This is a sculpted cake of Luigi holding a vacuum cleaner while Boo and King Boo circle him.

Mario Meets Pokémon Cake
Mario meets Pokémon Cake

This amazing Mario meets Pokémon Cake was made by Poliana Simão. The amount of detail on this cake is astonishing.

Some of the cool things on the cake are:

  • Pikachu is standing on a water pipe, dressed as Mario and holding a poké ball.
  • Across from Pikachu is a giant poké ball. Mario and Luigi are inside the ball. Luigi is pushing the top of the ball up.
  • Jigglypuff is to the side of Mario and Luigi. It is balancing on two poké balls that are stacked on top of each other.
  • Bowser is in the middle of the cake.
  • Pachirisu is next to Bowser.
  • On the other side of Bowser is a piranha plant

Poliana does a great job mixing and matching Mario and Pokémon characters on this cake. The thing that makes this cake so special is that with all these characters, it isn’t too busy.

Look at the top of the cake, it has Pikachu, Mario, Luigi, Jigglypuff and a bunch of poké balls. Usually that would be way too much for the top of a cake.

Poliana’s design is brilliant.

Look at the main cake. It is supporting two other cakes. One looks like a pipe. The other looks like a grassy field with coins floating in the air. Pikachu is on top of the pipe. The cake that looks like a green field has a two layers. The bottom layer has the two poké balls that Jigglypuff is balancing on. The top layer has the giant poké ball with Mario and Luigi. Instead of being jammed together, the characters are on three different sections of the cake.  This design give each character a chance to shine and makes this a delightful cake.

This amazing Mario Cake was sent to me by Vic Sage from The Retroist  and Pop Culture Retrorama. A while back, Gameboymedia got an idea. An awesome idea. A wonderful, awesome idea!  What if you took the very first level of Super Mario Bros. recreated it in cake, added in stop motion animation, sound effects, and a musical score.  The results is one of the coolest cakes I’ve ever seen.

Here is a YouTube of the cake in action:

Want to peek behind the curtains and see how this was made, check out this video:

I love the portion where the cake collapsed from all the motion, so it took a week and half to film the sequence.  I’ve had a cake completely collapse and I’ve had a different cake that was so large it warped the cake board during delivery, so I can relate.
