This Superb Shrake Cake was made for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Collaboration.

The collaboration of food artists from around the world, known as Birthday Mischief Managed have assembled to debut their second installment of edible art in celebration of world-renowned author, J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut and newest movie trilogy – “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, is an A to Z “textbook” of magical creatures that have been featured in the Potter film series and publishing’s of J.K. Rowling. For this collaborative effort some of the beasts were removed from the list inside the textbook and each artist was asked to create the remaining using only their imaginations and the book’s descriptions with sweet edible mediums.  Each artist has dressed for the occasion and transformed themselves into “Magizoologist”. Be sure to visit their pages and read the documents kept about their beast.

Our biggest challenge was resisting the urge to research, (cheat) pictures of our assigned beasts. The group has made sweet magic. My only regret is not having a pet Kneazle.” – Michelle “ChefMitchie” Curran aka Michaeleas Cuuragusta, Headmistress

Here is Mayen’s description of this Fabulous Edible Beast:

Study/Beast: Gorgomare, to mean “sea devil,” because of its ferocious feeding habits and unforgiving nature Name: Lord Voldemere, named for command reasons Notable Behaviors: Esca at the tip of dorsal rod blooms and glows when it detects the presence of prey. Highly sensitive to light other than its own. Lurks in deep waters and rests among rocks, unmoving unless to feed and/or attack. Spikes covering the body release poison into the surrounding waters when beast feels threatened. Extremely territorial. Feeding notes: Carnivorous. Enjoys devouring prey that struggles to get free. Keeps fang-like teeth sharp by feeding on bone and the occasional rock it mistakes for food. Can go for days without feeding, but gets very aggressive and ruthless. When famished, often gnaws on surrounding rocks to display displeasure by making a mess and turning water murky. Also grows extra spikes to show defiance when underfed. Injuries sustained by Caretaker and aide taken: skin burns and severed pinky finger after accidentally dipping hand in beast’s tank to retrieve dropped wand. Applied burn-healing paste and drank Skele-gro. Injuries sustained by Beast and aide taken: beast’s spikes became brittle after filling the tank using Aguamenti spell. Immediately replaced tank with seawater. Let beast recuperate, undisturbed, in the dark, for one moon cycle. Has study been released if you took it captive? If yes, where?Beast still in captivity to study if toxin levels in water change when beast is put under Immobulus spell. *No additional notes.

Here is Janette’s description of this Fabulous Edible Beast:

Study/Beast: Runespoor Name: As I am not a Parselmouth, the Runespoor’s true names are unknown to me. The left head I referred to as “Consilium”, the middle head as “Somnium” and the right head I named “Criticus”, reflecting their individual traits as Planner, Dreamer and Critic.

Notable Behaviors: Each of the Runespoor’s head serves a different function. The left head is the planner, it decides where the Runespoor is to go and what it is to do next. The middle head is the dreamer (it is common for a Runespoor to remain stationary for days lost in glorious visions and imaginations) and the right head is the critic whose fangs are highly venomous. It evaluates the efforts of the left and middle heads with a continual irritable hissing.

Feeding notes: There is some competition between the 3 heads whilst feeding, so it is very important to offer up the food keeping your hands at a safe distance!

Injuries sustained by Caretaker and aide taken: Whilst studying the middle head as it was in its’ dream like state, I became preoccupied and suffered a bite to my right arm, as the right head saw it’s opportunity and struck. A strong healing spell and a regular intake of blood-replenishing potion made for a full recovery after a number of weeks.

Injuries sustained by Study/Beast and aide taken: The right head became most irritated with much hissing to be heard. The left and middle heads had clearly had enough of this and unfortunately put an end to it….. (It is common to see the far right head missing, as the other two heads often band together to bite it off when it criticises the other two heads too much.) Let’s just say I had one less mouth to feed after that…..

Has study been released if you took it captive? If yes, where? I have released the Runespoor back into its natural forest habitat, however as it is a highly sought after creature, the forest is unplottable and its exact location will remain secret…

Any other notes you took during your study: If the middle head can be encouraged into its dream like state, the Runespoor will remain stationery for long periods of time, which is most useful for effective study.

Red Cap Cake

Here is Isabel’s description of this Fabulous Edible Beast:

Study/Beast: RED CAP Name: (did it tell you it’s name or did you name it for command reasons): I kindly tried to ask them their names before their despicable attack against me. After that I refer to them just as “ghoul misbirths”.
Notable Behaviors: Red Caps live in reduced groups and go hunting together. My captured specimen weared dirty white briefs, iron boots, leather suspenders and an stranger helmet all covered with blood. In fact he reacts with bloodlust when I show him something red. I suppose is a male redcap because of his bushy grey beard. He doesn’t seem to be very chatty, they have their own language but he understood everything I told him. When he thought he was alone he used to whisper single words like “muggle”, “blood”, “brain”, “hit it”, “warm”, “now”….
Feeding notes: After 36 hours I proceed to feed the creature but he didn’t eat anything, not vegetables nor meat, fish or water…anything. So I figured what kind of fod he could eat and prepared an experiment: I freed one of my captured muggles in the wood and my redcap half and an hour later. As I thought, muggles are main food for redcaps and blood their staple drink.
Injuries sustained by Caretaker and aide taken: I had to launch a “Glacius” spell to capture him. No too serious, just two gangrenous feet fingers.
Injuries sustained by Study/Beast and aide taken: Of course not, If he had damaged me minimally I wouldn’t be able to complete this study…without a subject.
Has study been released if you took it captive? If yes, where? Well, in a certain way I think I freed him. I freed his head from his body and now my first “ghoul misbirth” rests in my trophy showcase.
Any other notes you took during your study: I’ve tried to study more about Red Caps but they have no much to learn, except that they dig holes to ambush dimwitted muggles, love to hit brains with many stuff, they are very aggressive and not too smart in their tactics…and ugly and stinking. But I must confess that I really have fun capturing lately and I’ve never seen my house so beautiful with my bloody helmet collection.
