I love this cake! The image of Albert Einstein fishing for love is just so cool. This was Imaginarium Cakes contribution to Steampunk Sugar Geeks. Steampunk Sugar Geeks is a collaboration between cake decorators celebrating all things steampunk.
The second I saw this cake, I started hearing two old song playing in my head. Johnny Lee’s Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places:
I was lookin' for love in all the wrong places
Lookin' for love in too many faces
Searchin' their eyes, lookin' for traces
Of what I'm dreamin' of
Hopin' to find a friend and a lover
I'll bless the day I discover,
Another heart- lookin' for love.
-and-
Otis Redding’s Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay
Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone, listen
Two thousand miles I roam
Just to make this dock my home, now
I'm just gon' sit at the dock of a bay
Watchin' the tide roll away, ooh
Sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time
There is so much to love about this cake. The figure of Albert Einstein with steampunk goggle on his head is terrific. He’s sittin' on the dock fishing for love in all the wrong places.
The fishing machine is insane. It is almost as large as Einstein and has gears everywhere. It is exactly the type of larger than life invention you’d expect Einstein to make.
The funniest thing about the cake is that it looks like it has a blue ombre ruffle — expect for the fact that it is bolted down. I love that touch.
The cake board is ocean blue. Love is on top of the ocean, looks silver, and has screws in it. Einstein is using a steampunk heart as bait. My single favorite thing about the cake is that if you look closely you’ll see that Einstein caught love. This cakes makes the romantic in me smile.
I love the metaphors of:
Einstein fishing for love with his own heart
and that
His heart is on the line
Here are two close-ups of this LOVEly cake!
