Gentlemen, start your engines!
These wonderful hand painted Wacky Races Cupcakes were made for a 30th birthday.
Wacky Races was a Saturday morning cartoon that premiered in 1968. There were 34 ten minute episodes in this series. The plot of each episode was a race between 11 wacky race cars, each with even wackier drivers. Each race occurred in a different location. What made this cartoon so popular was that each driver did everything possible to prevent the other cars from finishing the race.
These cupcakes feature eight cartoon characters. I’ll begin with the dog at the top and work my way around clockwise.
The dog with the cap and scarf is Muttley. Muttley doesn’t really talk. He snickers and occasional grumbles a word or two.
Muttley is the sidekick of Dick Dastardly. Dick is the main bad guy in Wacky Races. Since Wacky Races is a kid cartoon, Dick & Muttley are more incompetent than evil. Dick and Muttley became so popular that they have appeared in many other animated series. Dick drives the rocket powered Mean Machine.
Penelope Pitstop is the only female wacky racer. Penelope was popular enough that she had her own animated series – The Perils of Penelope Pitstop. She drives the Compact Pussycat.
Clyde is the leader of the Ant Hill Mob. I’m not making this up, the Ant Hill Mob is a gang of midget gangsters. They drive the Bullet Proof Bomb. The Ant Hill Mob were also featured in The Perils of Penelope Pitstop. Oddly enough, in that animated series, the Ant Hill Mob are heroes who regularly rescue Penelope and help her defeat the Hooded Claw.
Peter Perfect has a crush on Penelope. He drives the Turbo Terrific. Peter is handsome, strong, heroic and vain. He’s so vain, he probably thinks this cartoon is about him.
Next is Sergeant Blast. He and Private Meekly drive the tank / car hybrid the Army Surplus Special.
Professor Pat Pending drives the Convert-a-Car which can transform. Convert-a-Car: More Than Meets The Eye.
Yankee Doodle Pigeon doesn’t appear in Wacky Races. Instead, he from the spinoff – Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines. I’m a massive fan of Hanna-Barbera. One thing I love about their cartoons is the way they treated their characters as actors. In Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines, Dick Dastardly and Muttley are now German World War I flying aces. Dick is the leader of The Vulture Squadron. Their mission is to capture Yankee Doodle Pidgeon and retrieve the secret messages that he is carrying.
In the center are two cupcakes, one has the name Mark and the other the number 30.
These wonderful hand painted cupcakes were made by Amanda Mumbray. Amanda makes some of the most beautiful cupcakes you’ve ever seen.
Here are three examples:

This is Amanda’s award winning Cinderella Cupcake Tower. It features the mice sewing Cinderella’s dress. The figures of four mice are simply amazing. I sew frequently, so I really like the cupcakes with all of the little sewing odds and ends.

The detail on each of these 12 cupcakes is so perfect that each Princess is instantly recognizable.

I can’t decide which is more amazing the cupcakes or the setting that Amanda created for them. Both are simply stunning.
Amanda has such an eye for detail that she spent 2 days painting her Wacky Race cupcakes. That’s why ever character looks perfect.
