Happy May The 4th Be With You!
If I had to pick the hottest baked good in America right now, I’d have to say macarons. Every coffee, tea and boba tea shop serves those delightful little cookie sandwiches that are a bright pastel color and filled with a yummy fruit or creme filling. I’ve even made earl grey macarons myself.
See Cad Bane above looking unhappy and carrying enough weapons to take care of whatever is making him unhappy? Believe it or not, Cade Bane is a macaron. He was made by Alicia Bree of Bree’s Sweet Treats. Cad Bane is filled with lemon blueberry cheesecake.
There are two things that make this one of the most elaborate macarons I’ve ever seen. First, the amount of detail that Alicia included on Cad Bane is astonishing. Look at the metal tips on the coat jacket, the little stubs that hold the breathing tubes in place or the details on the gloves.
Second, Alicia mixes edible paints that have different sheens and uses edible metallic paints to create so much texture. Here are a few examples. The top of the hat has a part that is metallic silver, but the underside of the hat is a completely different color and texture. Look at how Cad Bane’s red eyes look like they glow slightly, while his brow and face are a completely different color and texture. Even the blue of Cad Bane’s face isn’t always the same color. Alicia shaded his mouth and nose a slightly lighter shade of blue. Look down a little further to the weapon in Cad Bane’s right hand that is resting across his arm. The blaster is actually above his arm, so it adds a degree of 3-D that you can’t get any other way. Both the color and texture of the blaster and the leather jacket are completely different.
This is such an amazing macaron:
Here is a photograph of the macaron before Alicia painted it. I really like this photo because it shows that only three batters were used to create Cad Bane. All the stunning details on the cookie were painted on by Alicia.
