Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion –  Terrific Cakes and Cookies and Pumpkins featuring Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Theses were made by wonderfully skilled bakers from around the world.

There are many great cookie sets with Madame Leota, The Hitchhiking Ghosts, the Doom Buggy, and others.

Several cakes are decorated with patterns that look just like the wall paper in the ride and some cakes were even made by Disney bakers.

Since this is my husband’s favorite ride at Disney, I made him a set of cookies for his birthday. They included a Hatbox Ghost cookie that has the words A Ghost will follow you Home. I also made a portrait of Master Gracey cookie and a Doom Buggy cookie with the three Hitchiking Ghosts. Finally, I made Madame Leota cookies because no cookie set would be complete without her.

Hitchhiking Ghosts 30th Birthday Cake

Hitchhiking Ghosts 30th Birthday Cake

This awesome Hitchhiking Ghosts 30th Birthday Cake was made by Sweet Catering. The ghosts are so perfect that the first time I saw a picture of this cake, I thought it was a statue.

This is a single tier cake with a really large cake board. The cake board is decorated with green fondant and little tufts of grass. In the grass are the classic Haunted Mansion tombstones.

The cake’s topper is the three Hitchhiking Ghosts riding in a Doom Buggy. Phineas is in his classic pose with his hand out like he is hitchhiking. Ezra is holding onto his hat. Gus is in the middle and holding onto the safety bar on the front of the Doom Buggy. Each ghost is green with white hair and a few black accents. The sculpting on them is amazing. Since this is a 30th birthday cake, there is a white 30 on the front of the Doom Buggy.

The use of color on this cake is sensational. There are two primary colors – a ghostly green and black. The grass and the hitchhiking ghosts are the same ghostly green. Most of the tombstones, the writing on the base of the cake, the Doom Buggy, and accents on the ghosts are black. The little bits of copper, grey and white go perfect with these colors and make sure that the cake doesn’t look too dark.

This is one cake I wouldn’t mind following me home!

Glow-In-The-Dark Hitchhiking Ghosts Cookies

Three glow in the dark cookies each one featuring one hitchhiking ghost

Glow-In-The-Dark Hitchhiking Ghosts Cookies

These Glow-In-The-Dark Hitchhiking Ghosts Cookies were made by Practically Perfect Cookies. They are purple cookies with a black border. In the center of each cookie is one of the Hitchhiking Ghosts. The ghosts are painted with green glow-in-the-dark paint.

I can’t tell tell if Ciara used props or photoshop, but the final photograph is sensational. The background is a foggy black and grey. There is a barren tree and a tombstone that reads “Welcome Foolish Mortals” in the background. Mix these together and you get a great looking photo.

The Hitchhiking Ghosts is probably the most iconic scene in Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride. You are riding in a vehicle called a Doom Buggy. It has a single bench seat, a  low front with a handle bar and a high back that goes all the way past your head.

Very close to the end of the ride you pass three bluish green, transparent, shimmering ghosts who are trying to thumb a ride.

During this, the Ghost Host (the omni present unseen narrator) has began saying

“Ah, there you are! And just in time… there’s a little matter I forgot to mention — beware of hitchhiking ghosts!”

Your doom buggy turns a corner and you are now facing a mirror. You can see your doom buggy in the mirror. In the middle of the bench seat is one of the of three Hitchhiking Ghosts.

During this part, the Ghost Host is saying the classic lines:

“They have selected you to fill our quota, and they’ll haunt you until you return! Now I will raise the safety bar, and a ghost will follow you home!”

The Ghost Host laughs and you continue towards the very end of the ride while be admonished to “Hurry Back!”.

3-D Stretching Room Portrait Cookie

This amazing 3-D Stretching Room Portrait Cookie was made by Mallookie’s Cookies. She made this amazing cookie for CookieCon.

This is a shadowbox cookie. She used six separate cookies layered on top of one another. After flooding each layer, she painted the details on with food gels and added isomalt to the alligator pool. The results are one spooktacular cookie.

The Stretching Room Portraits are from the classic ride The Haunted Mansion at the Disney Theme Parks. When you first enter the mansion, you are quickly moved into a room that looks like an extremely large round elevator. Once everyone has entered, the door vanishes into the woodwork and the room now has no windows and no doors. The room appears to descend and as it does, the top of the room stretches higher and higher. As the room stretches, you see on each wall a portrait that gets more ominous as more of it is revealed.  This cookie is an absolutely stunning recreation of one of these famous portraits.
