Amazing Fawkes The Phoenix Cake

Fawkes The Phoenix Cake

Raewyn Read Cake Design made this stunning Fawkes The Phoenix Cake for the Harry Potter Themed cake collaboration – Birthday Mischief Managed.  Birthday Mischief Managed is a worldwide collaboration of food artists to celebrate J.K. Rowling’s 50th Birthday. The collaboration went live on July 31st, the date of J.K. Rowling’s and Harry Potter’s birthday.

From the Harry Potter Wiki:

Fawkes was a highly intelligent phoenix and Albus Dumbledore’s animal companion and defender.

Fawkes was instrumental in helping Harry Potter defeat Salazar Slytherin’s basilisk in 1993, and he came to Dumbledore’s aid in fighting Lord Voldemort during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Following Dumbledore’s death, Fawkes sang his Lament over the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and then left, never to be seen again. His tail feathers were the cores of the two twin wands which were held by Lord Voldemort and Harry Potter.

Raewyn used a gravity defying cake structure and internal supports to create the cake. Fawkes is decorated with orange and red coloured Cake Craft fondant and gumpaste and hundreds of hand cut and hand painted wafer paper feather’s.

Raewyn used many images as inspiration for Fawkes including JK Rowling’s original pencil sketch and movie and book images.  The end results is one of the most gorgeous Harry Potter themed cakes I’ve ever seen.

I love this photo of Fawkes because it shows how gorgeous all the flame colored feathers are.  I cannot image handing cutting and hand painting each and every feather.

The nice thing about a phoenix birthday cake? You don’t need candles because it provides its own flame Smile
