Downton Abbey Cake inspired by Lady Marys dress

Here is Nikki and Rebecca’s description of their Fabulous cake:

We were so honored to be invited to participate in this collaboration. Downton Abbey is so full of amazing outfits and backgrounds, it’s a perfect place to find inspiration for cake! We chose Mary’s dress from Season 2, Episode 3, simply because we found it beautiful, and it easily provided a way to play with different techniques. We designed the bottom tier to look like the sleeves of this beautiful dress. Airbrushed with a light purple sheen, the tier was given thin black stripes to mimic the sleeves. The middle tier was carved to look like a bodice, and adorned with a plethora of black pearls and chains, to represent the beautiful necklace worn with the dress. You can’t look at the dress without immediately thinking of cake lace, and so our top tier was given that look. Using a home-made recipe, we wrapped the tier in lace, and topped the cake with a black peony.
