Welcome to the latest and greatest Super Blog Team Up. This time out we are looking at Image Comics which just celebrated 30 years of publishing great creator owned comics. Today, I’m celebrating by featuring Killer Walking Dead Cakes!

Walking Dead Sugar Sculpture

Help! Zombies Are Escaping From My Walking Dead Comic!

This amazing Walking Dead sugar sculpture was made by Anne Heap from Pink Cake Box.

Walking Dead Sugar Sculpture

This Walking Dead sugar sculpture features a Walking Dead comic book with zombie hands reaching out from inside it.  This makes it look like the zombies are escaping from within the comic.  The stand which is holding the comic book off the ground is designed to look like blood.  The cake stand is covered with artwork from the Walking Dead.

Here is the cover of the Walking Dead comic.

Here is the inside of the Walking Dead comic.  Since the Walking Dead is a black and white comic, the artwork here is also black and white.  This picture has a great view of the three zombie hands.  You can see where they have touched the comic because they left blood finger prints.

Daryl Dixon Wacky Wobbler Cake

Daryl Dixon Wacky Wobbler Cake

Funko, the king of bobble heads, makes a Walking Dead: Biker Daryl Wacky Wobbler .  It features Daryl Dixon one of the most popular characters on The Walking Dead.  Vanessa’s Cake Designs decided to recreate this bobble head in cake and the end results in amazing!

Walking Dead Cookie

The Greene Family Farm

Ready to have your mind blown?  The terrific piece of artwork you see on the stand is a cookie.  This stunning Walking Dead Cookie was made by Michelle from FROSTING – Cakes & Cookies

Michelle’s hand painted cookie features The Greene Family Farm.  The farm is the main setting for Season 2 of The Walking Dead.  In real life the farm is in Senoia, Georgia which is about an hour from where I live.

Walking Dead Cookie

The most amazing thing about Michelle’s cookie? The size!  It is much smaller than it looks in the first picture.  I have no idea how Michelle made such an amazing detailed painting on such a tiny cookie.

Lori Grimes Cake

Lori Grimes Standing At Her Grave

Carolina Lara created this cake called Lori Standing at her Grave.

Lori Grimes

The likeness to Sarah Wayne Callies, the actress who played Lori Grimes, is wonderful.

Lori Grimes Sculpture

The dress that Lori is wearing is her wedding dress.  Rick sees a vision of Lori in her wedding dress at her grave site in at least two episodes – The Suicide King and Home.

Lori Grimes' Wedding Dress

The sign behind Lori reads “It’s so easy to do the wrong thing in this world. So if it feels wrong, don’t do it, if it feels easy don’t do it, don’t let the world spoil you. GOODNIGHT, LOVE.” These were the last words Lori said to her son Carl.

Carol Peletier Cake

Carol Peletier Inspires You To Never Give Up!

Carolina Lara also created this amazing cake.

Carol Peletier Sculpture

The Walking Dead is about how people respond under unbelievable pressure.  Carol is one of the main characters in the Walking Dead TV show.  As the series has progressed, she has discovered her inner strength.

That’s why Carolina Lara included the quote:

You fight it.

You don’t give up.

and one day

you just

CHANGE

The quotes comes from the episode Indifference.  It is one of the last things Carol says to Lizzie.

Carol is portrayed differently in the comic and TV show.  From Wikipedia: “In the comic series, Carol exhibits a neurotic, self-centered, and naive demeanor. Throughout her time in the comics, she grows increasingly unstable, to the extent of self-destruction. The television show differs in these regards, as she is shown to be a stern, pragmatic, and compassionate individual who has been gradually building inner strength.”  Wikipedia has a wonderful quote by Executive Produce Scott Gimple about this. “[Carol] was strong all along. The apocalypse didn’t make her strong. The apocalypse made her show herself that she’s strong”.

The likeness of Melissa McBride, the actress who plays Carol Peletier on TV, is wonderful.

I Don’t Want To Be Afraid Of Being Alive

Brittani-D-Maggie-Not-Afraid-02

This Walking Dead Cookie was made by Layde Cakes.  Brittani made this cookie that features Maggie Greene and Glenn Rhee for The Baking Dead, a collaboration of over 50 cake and sugar artists celebrating the hit AMC series The Walking Dead.  You can find The Baking Dead on the web, Facebook, and Twitter.

The sugar artists that make up The Baking Dead come from all over the globe.  Each artist chose a character or scene from the show to recreate in sugar or cake form. They were asked to incorporate the emotion and relationships that are conveyed in the show and use butter, sugar, candy and cake to make you “feel” through their piece, in much the same way that the show conveys such strong emotions.

Baking Dead is also dedicated to helping to spread the word about Domestic Violence Prevention and Awareness. Since the beginning of the show, the issue of domestic violence has reared it’s ugly head and continues to be an issue faced throughout the series. The Baking Dead is dedicate to all the survivors of domestic violence and to wants to link with as many domestic violence prevention and awareness organizations as possible, including the National Center on Domestic & Sexual Violence.  Many in the group have been touched by or are survivors of domestic violence in one form or another and felt that this would be a great opportunity to get the word out.

Maggie Greene and Glenn Rhee

Brittani titled this cookie I don’t want to be afraid.  The title comes from a something Maggie said in the episode “30 Days Without an Accident”.  Here is the dialog from IMDB:

Maggie Greene: I'm not pregnant.
Glenn Rhee: You know?
Maggie Greene: I know.
Glenn Rhee: [sighs in relief] Oh, thank God.
Maggie Greene: Yeah.
Glenn Rhee: Oh, my God.
Maggie Greene: I didn't want to, but we could have. We can have lives here.
Glenn Rhee: How can you say that after today? After Lori?
Maggie Greene: Because I don't want to be afraid of being alive.
Glenn Rhee: Being afraid is what's kept us alive.
Maggie Greene: No. It's how we kept breathing.

Brittani wrote the following about her awesome cookie:

“My subject for The Baking Dead was Maggie Greene. When thinking of how I wanted to portray her in sugar, I knew I wanted to include Glenn. Throughout the show, they have become such huge parts of each other and I felt as though it was important to highlight their romance that they found in the midst of such chaos.

My piece is a 6"x10" sugar cookie iced in royal icing and hand painted using a combination of gel and liquid food coloring.

I was very excited to have been given the privilege to be a part of something so close to me. I love the show and love the characters and am glad I got to pay some tribute to them by doing something I love.”

The Two Faces Of Michonne

Michonne Cake

The Baking Dead is a collaboration of over 50 cake and sugar artists celebrating the hit AMC series The Walking Dead.  You can find The Baking Dead on the web, Facebook, and Twitter.

The sugar artists that make up The Baking Dead come from all over the globe.  Each artist chose a character or scene from the show to recreate in sugar or cake form. Since Michonne is a central character is both the TV show and comic, Chasing Butterflies Pastries and Sweetface Cakes decided to team-up. Chasing Butterflies Pastries make the above cake featuring the comic version of Michonne.  Sweetface Cakes created a cake featuring Danai Gurira, the actress who plays Michonne on TV.

Michonne Cake

When Michonne first appears in issue 19 of The Walking Dead, she has two zombies in chains walking behind her.  When asked about them, Michonne explains “These two stopped trying to attack me a long time ago.  My boyfriend and his best friend. Having them usually kept the others from attacking me—somehow.”

Renay Zamora from Sweetface Cakes made this cake of the TV version of Michonne.  Renay Zamora deserves a round of applause because she is the baker who headed up The Baking Dead!  Renay also runs the website Take on Cake.  Renay describes Take on Cake: “I decided to start Take On Cake to help fellow cake enthusiasts “take on” and master cake decorating techniques, as well as offer my “take on” current cake topics.”  In addition to hosting The Baking Dead website, Take On Cake has a sells Renay’s cool video tutorial called Swinging From The Moon.  This tutorial teaches you how to create a gravity-defying cake for a memorable event using a strong and versatile structure.

What’s Black and White and Red All Over?

Andrea

What’s Black and White and Red All Over? This creeptastic chalkboard cake made by Cakefield Avenue. Agatha make this cake of Andrea from The Walking Dead as part of The Baking Dead, a collaboration of over 50 cake and sugar artists celebrating the hit AMC series The Walking Dead.  You can find The Baking Dead on the web, Facebook, and Twitter.

These sugar artists come from all over the globe.  Cakefield Avenue is located in Dublin, Ireland.

Agatha did a wonderful job with this chalkboard cake.  Since Andrea is dead, Agatha decided it would be cool to feature the ghost of Andrea on her cake.  I’ve never seen a chalkboard cake used this way, but it is brilliant.  The black background and the  white sketch of Andrea really gives the cake an otherworldly effect.

Zombie Hand

While the chalkboard cake worked great for a ghostly version of Andrea, it didn’t look enough like The Walking Dead.  So, Agatha decided to add a touch of zombies!  I think the tagline for The Baking Dead should have been “Any cake can be made better… just add zombies!”.
