This Fabulous Downton Abbey Cake inspired by Lady Sybil’s harem pants was made for the Downton Abbey Themed Cake Collaboration – A Sweet Farewell To Downton.
This Fabulous cake was made by Jonathan Theuma from JT Cakes.
Here is Jonathan’s bio:
I’m Jonathan from the tiny Island of Malta which is in the Mediterranean. Creating cakes is my passion. I was introduced to cake decorating by my father. I started decorating simple cakes when I was just 17 years old. When I was 21 I attended a sugar flower course and after that I used to do some sugar flower decorations on wedding cakes my dad used to bake and cover. In 2004, when I was 25, my father suddenly passed away. I abandoned the cake world for almost 7 years. I started again 4 years ago from scratch. In October 2014 I created a first in the cake world – floating box cakes. My speciality is gravity-defying cakes and painted cakes.
Here is Jonathan’s description of his Fabulous cake:
For my inspiration I wanted to do a tired cake based on the harem pants outfit worn by Lady Sybil in Season 1. I wanted to recreate the shades of blue colours, bronze and black, using as many possible elements and texture from her dress. The bottom tier is carved cake and I did pleats the match her harem pants. The second tier is covered in black fondant and piped royal icing painted in bronze. For the third tier I took some elements from her top dress and did a quilling effect. I also did a touch of abstract painting on top tier with matching bronze sugar roses.
