60 years ago today, Batman ’66 premiered. I didn’t want to let the anniversary pass without giving this show the love and attention it deserved.

Batman Cookies

These wonderful Batman Through The Years cookies were made by Sylvie Bear Cookie.

It includes this cute smiling Batman ’66 cookie.

Batman ’66 was a blast. It had wall to wall action, everything was bright and colorful, every hero and villain was larger than life and the show was kid friendly.

While the theme song is iconic, the endings with Batman and Robin in a death trap and the famous line “same bat-time, same bat-channel” is even more famous. In fact, it might be the most famous end scenes of any TV show.

Maniac Pumpkins made this wonderful Batman ‘66 pumpkin as a tribute to Adam West when he passed away.

My two favorite superheroes are Batman and Superman. I’m pretty sure that the first time I saw Batman was on Batman ’66. Adam West was AMAZING as Batman. You couldn’t watch Adam West and not fall in love his Batman. No matter how wacky the situation, West always played every scene with a straight face. His Batman was heroic, a role model and a father figure to Robin.

A hero needs villains and Batman may have the greatest rogue’s gallery of any super hero. Batman ’66 made the Joker, Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler become household names. The Joker was a clown, but he wasn’t scary. The Penguin stole every scene he was in. All three Catwoman were gorgeous and flirted with Batman. The Riddler, especially when played by Frank Gorshin, was truly mad.

The show also featured two other great heroes – Robin and Batgirl. I don’t think there was any child who didn’t want to be either Robin or Batgirl. In fact, the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl was created by DC Comics for the TV series.

Batman’s gadgets were so cool, I think even James Bound was jealous. The Batman ’66 Batmobile is my all time favorite version of the Batmobile. I loved the Bat-plane, Bat-boat and the Batcave.

This amazing Batcave Cake was made by Mike’s Amazing Cakes. The only thing not made of edible materials is the Batmobile. The Batmobile is a model owned by the individual who order this stunning cake.

Every kid wanted a Batcave like Batman’s. Our house didn’t even have a basement, so any chance of it having a Batcave was out. One of my favorite gadgets was the Bat-poles. Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson would slid down them and when they arrived in the Batcave they were Batman and Robin.

Unfortunately, for years Batman ’66 wasn’t anywhere to be found because of rights issues. When those were finally resolved, I bought the DVDs and was happy to find that the show was still fun to watch.

My favorite episode? I really like the Green Hornet ’66 TV show, so the Batman / Green Hornet team-up is my favorite. How can you top Adam West, Bruce Lee and Roger Carmel? It isn’t Batman ’66, but I have featured an amazing Bruce Lee vs. Batman Cookie based on a drawing by Mike Deodato.

Thanks for 60 amazing years!!!

I’ll be back same bat-time, same bat-channel next week with more pop culture cakes and cookies.
