Zoinks! Today is Super Blog Team Up and this time were traveling in time. Have I got a fun story for you. Thanks to a experimental time machine, Scooby-Doo meets the Flintstones and Jetsons.
This story is from issues 13 – 16 of Scooby-Doo Team-Up. These issues were written by Sholly Fisch and drawn by Scott Jeralds.
For my 2nd Super Blog Team Up post check out
- The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones Cookies
These wonderful The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones Cookies were made by The Country Cookie.
Warning! I can’t do these stories justice with some spoilers, but I won’t reveal the identity of The Phantom of the Operrock or the Space-Age Specter. When I first read these stories, I actually guessed the wrong identity for one of these ghosts.
- What’s New Scooby-Doo Cookies
These wonderful What’s New Scooby-Doo Cookies were made by Silvie Bear Cookie.
When I was a kid, Hanna-Barbera cartoons were extremely popular. They were the king of Saturday morning cartoons and their cartoons were syndicated on UHF channels. While I love so many Hanna-Barbera characters, my top four Hanna-Barbera cartoons are The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, Jonny Quest and the Jetsons. So a story that features three of the four is a dream come true. What about Jonny Quest? Don’t worry, he’ll be mentioned towards the end of this post.
- Flintstones Cake Toppers
These fabulous Flintstones Cake Toppers were made by Luciana Aguos.
- Scooby-Doo meets the Flintstones
In Bedrock, Professor Einstone is testing his time machine when he pulls Scooby-Doo and the gang into the past. Einstone’s time machine only works backwards, so Mystery, Inc. is trapped in Bedrock until the professor can finish his time machine and send them forward in time.
Einstone is a friend of The Flintstones and Rubbles, so the Scooby and the gang stay with them. Scooby-Doo meets Dino, who speaks in old English. Shaggy finds out why the Rubbles baby boy is called Bamm-Bamm. Fred (Jones) and Velma are fascinated by the animal powered appliances. There are cute jokes about Batman ’66 and Fruity Pebbles. Shaggy and Scooby can’t believe their eyes when they see the size of the food served in the stone age. Plus, since Mystery Inc. are ghostbusters, they meet The Gruesomes.
This story’s plot is classic Flintstones. It’s bowling night, but Fred and Barney have promised to take their wives to the Opera. The opera is haunted by The Phantom of the Operrock. Mystery Inc., the Flintstones and Rubbles end up capturing the Phantom and pulling off his mask.
Unfortunately, Scooby and the gang are still stuck in Bedrock, so Fred and Barney ask Gazoo to send them back to the future. Gazoo does exactly that and Mystery, Inc. ends up in the future…the far future of the Jetsons.
- Jetsons Cookies
These marvelous cookies were made by Honey & Lou Baking Co.
Scooby-Doo meets the JetsonsWhile in the future, Scooby-Doo and Astro discover that they sound identical. Judy crushes on Fred to Daphne’s dismay. Mystery Inc. meets Rosie. Astro shows Scooby his automatic bone dispenser. Shaggy, Scooby and Astro get to convert George’s flying car into a briefcase.
The main story is classic Jetsons story with an added Scooby-Doo style villain. Mr. Spacely has George working non-stop on Project X. But, there are two complications. As always, Cogswell is snooping around trying to find out what Spacely is up to. George, Spacely and Cogswell are all failing at their tasks because Spacely’s Sprockets headquarters is haunted by the Spage-Age Specter. Fred outwits the Specter and captures him.
With the mystery solved, our story ends as Scooby-Doo and the Gang are transported back to the correct time, just in time for Velma to reveal the identity of the Grumpy Ghost of Grizzly Grotto.
This wonderful Scooby-Doo Cake was made by Ana Brum Biscuit Designer. This is a four tier cake. Each tier of this marvelous cake is decorated differently.
I know of four ways to read this delightful story. First, it is on DC Universe Infinite.
Second, you should be able to find the paper copies of these issues in a back issue box at your local comic book shop. For paper only, these would be issues 7 & 8.
Third, these issues (13 through 16) are available digitally on comiXology.
- Scooby-Doo Team-Up Vol 2
I saved the best for last. I recommend picking up the trade paperback Scooby-Doo Team-Up Vol. 2. It is available both in paper and digitally. In addition to the Flintstones and Jetsons, this collection includes – Superman, Krypto, Great Caesar’s Ghost, Jonny Quest, Doctor Zin, Secret Squirrel, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and more. Each story in this collection is an absolute delight.
